Pyorrhoea
Pyorrhoea
Pyorrhoea is characterized by copious discharge of pus from the roots of the teeth and gums. The pus is often swallowed along with food and is absorbed into the gastrointestinal tract causing further diseases.
Pyorrhoea is caused by bacterial infections in oral cavity. Diseases like periodontitis, gingivitis and some chronic diseases cause pyorrhoea. Poor oral hygiene is the main cause of pyorrhoea in addition to indigestion and hyperacidity. When food particles remain in oral cavity for long time, they get rotten and provide ideal environment for growth of bacteria in oral cavity. These bacteria eventually infect gums, bones and dental ligaments and cause pyorrhoea.
